Step 1

Pre-heat oven to 160°C (140°C for a fan assisted) and prepare tin by greasing and lining with greaseproof paper

Step 2

Place butter, most of the syrup (leave around 2 tbsp worth) and sugars into a small saucepan and heat gently until ingredients are just melted, stir occasionally

Step 3

Once melted set the saucepan aside to cool for around 10 minutes

Step 4

In a small bowl crack eggs, add milk and whisk

Step 5

In a large bowl add flour and slowly pour in milk/egg mixture as well as the cooled butter syrup, whisk until batter is lump free and smooth

Step 6

Pour mixture into the prepared tin

Step 7

Bake in oven around 55 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean and the cake is slightly golden

Step 8

Leave to cool in tin on a cooling ran for around 10 minutes before drizzling over the remaining golden syrup

Step 9

Allow cake to cool completely before removing from tin (run a blunt knife around the sides)

Slice the cake and if there is any left store in an airtight container for a couple of days
